I couldn’t believe they opened the schools today. It was unsafe for the kids (no place to stand, icy streets). I saw the bus slide down the hill for each pickup this morning. Bad decision.
I was wondering the same things as I drove up 851 to 83 this morning at 20mph
The way my Kids talk, they say that they hear (aka hearsay) that the SESD wants them in school so they don’t have to use Scheduled time off as make-up days, which if true, I find it a poor decision on the SESD’s part. Obviously the Maryland schools took the high road and shut down the schools today.
I was wondering how the people who complain about SUV’s and MiniVans blocking the intersection were doing today with the mounds of snow. I was wondering if anyone called the police on the snow banks today
all southern Pa districts were 2 hours late. Going out this morning, I can not understand why. Even the stew. elem parking lot was not clear and driving around town, side roads were pretty bad. Bus stops were non existent so kids had to stand in the road. Funny - balt. county schools in Md have already closed tuesday and wednesday.
And from what I just heard via the rumor going around the Office, is Balto County is closed through Wednesday, maybe our Kids arn’t such sissies afterall.
Drive smart, drive slow and it’s not that bad. Sure, they could be better but not too far north of here they drive this all winter long. It’s part of winter and it gets old listening to people whine about it all the time.
And we all know that HS kids are the most reliable sources of information reguarding school policy. Seriously.

#### Kids, they no nothing, that’s what I keep telling them, but for some #### reason they think I care. I mean I just ignore them, don’t know why they think I listen to them or why I’d put the effort into raising them right, keeping them safe and all that other Parental bullshit, Seriously, why do I do it? So someone on a message board can tell me to do otherwise. lol
Has anyone been down the horseshoe (death) curve on Blue Ball Road today? That is the bus my child rides and there was no way they were getting on that bus! ! !
RSJ: Apparently your kid is in tight with Dr. Shenk then? He/she talked to Dr. Shenk and found out exactly why we had only a 2 hr delay since Dr. Shenk makes the call? I’m guessing not. In fact while he/she is likely a good kid (since you care so much about parenting you probably have instilled some good qualities in him/her) and he/she probably means no harm at all what was likely repeated was hearsay from other well intentioned students. That hardly qualifies as a reliable source. All kidding aside, your child has as much a grasp on why we had school today as anyone else who is providing the lovely conjecture on this board.
By the way, does cursing make you feel like a grown up? Whatever happened to civil conversation?
If I’d had seen 851 before I put my kids on the bus there is no way I would have let them go. I’m thinking that Invisable User and Carl don’t have kids by their remarks. We are concerned parents wondering exactly why our schools where open when the snow emergency plan is still in effect. I tried to call the school district today to see exactly why they thought it was safe for our kids to be on the roads but all I got were the voice mails. Looked for emails on the website and couldn’t find one.
I just don’t understand why everyone thinks the big bad school district is out to get them and their kids. It does the district no good to have our kids get hurt (yeah I have a kid). Should we trust them implicitly? Heck no! BUT at the same time realize “the district” is made up largely of people like you and I who actually DO care what happens to the kids.
Why do I feel like I always have to defend this district?? Ugh.
I was honestly surprised at the decision. I drove around East Hoepwell yesterday. I drove Grove Mill Rd to Lutz, turned around due to Lutz being blocked, Grove Mill to Blue Ball, up the lovely horseshoe curve (that was an adventure), down Blue Ball which was basically one lane in most places. From Blue Ball to Round Hill which was no picnic either. Macks Rd was closing over, although last night they were out clearing it. Most of the roads in my neighborhood were not suitable for bus traffic due to the number of obstacles in their path (cars).
I am sure the story was the same elsewhere. Rt 851 was not bad this morning. Plank was horrible when I came by at 6:30am. Lowe Rd was not great. All passable but could have been a problem with vehicles going in two directions.

It’s not because of me, as I said, it was hearsay from my Kids, they got it from somewhere, I believe them, I’m not going to beat it out of them to get their sources, lol. I don’t spew anything against SESD unless it’s about Taxes and everyone around here doesn’t need my 2 cents about them.
