Building codes require that all points of egress for emergency must open outward and typically have to have some sort of panic bar that overrides any electronic lock or physical lock. If the point of egress is a window then it must have certain dimensions to qualify.

The windows in the last room probably would not qualify. I don’t think my skinny butt in 5th through 8th grade would fit, let alone now. That building was built in 1974/75 during the gas crunch and it was built to be energy efficient (at that time). No windows, minimal exposures, etc. Also it was built for efficiency at the time as far as student movement. Each grade had it’s own wing. We just moved from room to room within the wing for the most part. The exception was for art, music, home ec, shop and science. Each of these had their own areas.

Our children’s lives are sacred and entrusted to the administrators of SESD once they enter the buildings.

Clockmaker, you are exactly correct.  However, once our children get on the bus and until they return home each and every day, we entrust their lives with the SESD administrators.  Their health and well being should always be at the top of the list.  Their lives should not be taken lightly, either on the bus, in the buildings or on the grounds of the school district.
