Will we ever find out? That would be a “NO”. I would imagine that this $20,000. “education for the board about school law because we don’t understand it” will cost the taxpayers of this district $2-300,000. before it is over. The primary goal of this entire action, led by the new members of the board, was to oust the superintendent as “pay back” for doing what she was hired to do....hold people accountable. For those who haven’t been held accountbale in the past, this is very difficult to accept. It results in people being fired and others leaving in sympathy of those who are let go. Having been in management for more than 25 years and having released many employees for non- or under-performance I know that friends and collegues of these employees often leave as a show of support...or they understand that if they are demonstrating the same conduct, they may be next and choose to leave before that happens. As we have heard over and over from this board, “personnel actions are confidential” and many times those leaving in support of an employee have no idea why that person is “really” being let go. People just don’t reveal why they are being released...it’s always the boss who is made to be the problem. Also having worked in union shops, the contract is generally very explicit about reasons for discipline and potential termination. It is just not that easy to get rid of someone for no good reason. Also, if there were so many issues with the management of teachers by the superintendent, I have been wondering why the teachers’ union didn’t put up the $20,000. for the “personnel investigation”? That is why union dues are paid. Despite the fact that maybe the superintendent didn’t have the best management style (and I have reported to many that have not), there is no question that test scores improved under her reign. Also, many teachers I spoke with about my concerns with the exodus of teachers over that 2 year period made it clear to me that many of those 75 teachers should have been gone long before this. If I had only heard that from one person, I would have thought it was questionable information. But when you here it over and over again, you have to figure there is something to it....after all, these are colleagues who saw behaviors on a day to day basis. No, we will never hear the results of this invertigation and I am afraid that this legal group will be on retainer with the ditrict for a very long time and through many litigations. This will be VERY expensive and we will be picking up the tab.

I have been in situations where some of my peers were let go. Some, in my opinion, should have been. Others I considered to be unfair. But I know of no-one “leaving in sympathy”.
Sorry, concerned parent, but if others left, it WAS the boss who was the problem.
I guess my choice of words was not the best...what I meant is that in my professional experience colleagues leave (fair or not) and often encourage their friends or fellow colleagues to join them in a new place that they have found and perceive to be better one way or another. I think that in many situations workers become complacent and stay in a place even when they are somewhat, or even very, dissatisfied because it is a real pain to change jobs and it’s less complicated to stay put. As a teacher, leaving the district costs them nothing as far as loosing any seniority or benefits is concerned and since SE is purported to have lower wages than other school districts, once someone “tests the waters” by leaving it becomes easier to uproot oneself, maybe put up with a commute and follow. I would imagine there are some who disliked the previous administrator or will dislike the next one and will probably choose to “vote with their feet”...and despite what anyone says turnover in itself is not always a bad thing.
I didn’t want to start another sesd thread so......
Glad to see that SESD passed on the PSSA state stanards..again! Great job students, teachers, staff and Dr. Shank’s 2009/10 team!
Looks like Red Lion didn’t make it in math and reading. I believe they were given a “failed” grade.
I believe we have a SB member that teaches at that school....in math.
YORK CITY failed too....our new KD principal is coming from there. YEEPIE!!!!

Louise:
Wonder how the Stewartstown Police justify the continuance of the hearing for the past Superintendent. After the past 6 months you would think that they would be ready. There must be more than meets the eye on this one. This looks like a very slippery slope to me.
