Has anyone who is an Earthlink customer experienced problems since they acquired OneMain.com?

If so would you please post what problems you have had.

I have had problems for the past couple of months. One of the main problems is not being able to stay connected. Another problem is they increased their monthly rate and have not provided the same good service as OneMain.Com at the same price which is what customers were told prior to the transition process. Customers are now billed an additional $1 for a “paper bill.”

I began as a Cyberia customer back in 1997 and have been with them as they went to D.E. Supernet, OneMain, and now Earthlink.  At every step the quality of service seemed to go down.  We experience disconnects mostly, along with occasions where we can’t establish a usable connection.  Still using them though…

I have been an earthlink subscriber for at least 4 years now. I have never had any problems.  After having had AOL, Prodigy, Compuserve, erols and another that I can’t really remember, this is the best ISP I’ve ever had.

It’s nice to hear a good report about ISP service!  I’ve heard good things about NFDC but the cost for the number of hours we use would be too high for us. downer

I like the service provided from Earthlink right now.  snake But I really hate the fact that they are not even considering making DSL service available here is stewartstown.  Neither is Verizon, which really bites!  I am getting really sick of the slow 56K connection I have, and me and my mother are considering signing up with MTwirefree.com, which is a wireless satelite internet service available right here in Stewartstown.  The only downside to this service is that satelite srevice can be obstructed by an object, which can affect your connection.  Also there is the $399 installation/hardware fee (or you can go with $149 at time of installation, + $25 for the next twelve months.  But the service itself is only $50 a month, with no need for a phone line.  But I would much rather have a DSL service available to me.

So, to sum it all up.  I really wish that these companys would stop being stubborn and offer us the service we deserve! 8)

I had OneMain when it was taken over by Earthlink. I never had good connection speeds with either one. Usually 26.4K was the best I could get. I believe overall my connections were slower with Earthlink. I couldn’t see paying >$20/mo. for those speeds, so I signed up with Localnet. They had the worst speeds of any internet provider I’ve ever had. Connections would drop, and when I could connect, I could see the large gaps in time between when I received data. It took forever to download a web page, even late at night. It sometimes took 15 mins just to download a couple email messages with no attachments. As far as dialup, I found Prodigy had the best speeds. They worked good for me. I’m with MTwirefree now.

I travel all over the US.  Earthlink has lots of POPs (Point of Presence) for dialin access.  This is the only reason I keep them.  I use MTwirefree for home access.  See other post for commments about MTwirefree.

Here are my problems with Earthlink.
Newsgroup Access:
Newsgroups are only available from Earthlink provided IP addresses.  That means I can not get to newsgroups from MTwirefree, even though I paid for access.

Email Access:
I can receive email from Earthlink (Mapi) in outlook from any network provider (MTwirefree).  However, you must be on Earthlink’s network in order to send mail (SMTP) relay will not work outside of Erathlink network.
The Earthlink web access program is terrible!!! It drops connection and times out constantly.  Webaccess is a different storage from Outlook provided.  Which means you have to delete everything twice.

I will probably switch to Wal-mart.com provider as soon as some network issues are worked out.
They offer 9.95/mo unlimited access.  The POPs are the compuserve network (owned by aol).  Yes, I consult for them in Bentonville, Ark. (about two weeks a year.) They have York Numbers right now.  I am pushing on the back end to get Stewartstown number established.

I have been with NFDC since 2000 and although my bps is only 28,000 to 34,000 I never get disconnected by them and can count the number of times I had trouble connecting on one hand. Downloading sometimes is slow, but I think that is as much net traffic and local phone lines as the ISP.  And they are more than helpful with questions and problems.

I have had Blazenet since 1998 and they have given me absolutely NO problems.  They also have local connection numbers for southern york county too.  Connection speed is good also.  Price is similar to AOL and other larger ISP’s. 8)
