For many computer users, Spyware and Adware have become more of a problem than computer viruses. Symptoms include web pages not loading, internet explorer failing to load or shutting down with cryptic error messages or just a complete slow down that is so obvious you know that you have a problem.
There are a number of FREE tools that you can download from the web, though any advertiser that popups advertising their spyware tool should be avoided.
Our recommendation is that you consider a tool that both scans, detects, updates automatically and helps prevent new spyware from being installed on your computer. We recommend SpySweeper v3.5.
Webroot’s SpySweeper v3.5: This program is similar to an anti-virus program in that it runs in memory, downloads updates when you computer is on the internet and helps keep new spyware from being installed on your computer. While NONE of the spyware tools are perfect this is one of the two best out there at this time.

In addition to SpySweeper we recommend that you also download and install the following Free tools AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy. These tools are free because they only scan, detect and remove but do not help prevent future spyware infection.

Note: This is one of the best products as it is FREE detects and removes most everything that it finds. On their main website, visit the download area, which will take you to a number of choices to download AdAware SE v1.05. I typically suggest you use the “download.com” website.
Once you have the software installed, you should immediately check for any updates. Once the updates have been installed, select the Scan button, be sure to choose the 2nd option or “Full Scan”. Our advice has been to remove any and all spyware/adware that it finds. If however removing something causes a legitimate program to fail your only option is to reinstall that original program.
Spybot Search & Destroy v1.3
Visit the http://www.download.com website and in the search box look fo “Spybot 1.3” typically it shows up as the #2 spot. Download this tool, and follow the directions during the setup. Backup your registry, check for updates, download all of the updates and than begin scanning. Once it has finished, you can “Fix the problems”
