I agree Guy, poor choice on name if you ask me. Tends to immediately alienate a certain portion of the local population.

I received the same mailer. Some questions that came to mind are who is “we” that is referred to at their web site and in their mailer. For a commercial computer and network builder since 2000 there is no mention at their web site or in their mailer who their clients are or have been. I would like to think if someone was in the computer business for 2 years as mentioned why are they just now creating their own web site? A visit to their web site which is still unconstruction leaves me with several other questions.

I also agree that they could have come up with a better name than the one they have.

I can’t speak for everyone but in my opinion I would prefer to do business with someone who I can mentally affix a face to rather than an anonymous firm, especialy when a company advertises itself as being a local business.

We do know one thing that they run their business out of 14 Scarborough Fare. A call to the township might help identify the anonymous owner.

For now I would prefer to do business with someone I know I can trust and someone who’s face is present in the community. I am not trying to drum up business for this person bu if I did have computer problems I would most like contact a fellow who has posted on this forum several times Jeff something who’s last name escapes me at the moment.

Finally went and checked out this website.  Domain is still Compugod, name of the business changed to Comp-U-Tek, to protect the innocent I’m sure.

I just bought a system from John. His Price was good and the turnaround time was great. He also helped me with some parts I needed. It was nice that he had them on hand so I did not have to order them. wink

Hi Stewartstown. I am the owner of Comp-u-tek, Inc. (previously CompuGod, Inc.) I am posting to this forum to clear the air concerning the questions in this topic.

First I would like to say I have lived in Stewartstown for 11 years. I started Compugod, Inc. strictly for commercial clients in MD. The name meant no dis-respect to the lord himself; it was a nickname from school.

My company works for major clients in the MD region. One post mentioned they would like references, well here are some. I currently work for Psych Associates in Towson. They are Maryland’s largest Blue cross and Blue shield psychiatric firm. I work for Ap-Don, Inc. (Bel-Air MD), Maryland’s largest medical billing company for nursing homes.

Currently we are working on several (large) corporate networks, one of them wireless in the Hunt valley area.

I only opened my doors to the residents of Stewartstown when I realized a real need for competent computer services. Services I have been providing our commercial clients for years. I was shocked to see just how many people really needed my service. Since Jan 15th, 2003 over 100 clients in Stewartstown have had their computer and or networks worked on by us. (Us being me and my employees) and I have our custom servers in several local businesses and many more homes have our custom Pc’s in them.

When I opened the residential side of my company I kept the (old) name. I did not realize the implications of that move until Guyshook brought it to my attention.
Realizing I could upset some of my neighbors, I took great expense to change the name.

So now you have it. There is no secret company doing shady business here. I have lived at 14 Scarborough fare for 11 years. As far as the Compugod name is/was concerned, I consider it a small mistake. As far as my site is concerned I registered my website with my name and my home address, not something a person who wanted to remain anonymous would have done.

As the owner, I set my residential prices 10 dollars an hour lower then my nearest competitor. Our commercial rates range from $55 up to $90.00 an hour.

Most residential repair companies charge $45-60 Hr. With an hour Minimum. I charge $35.00 Hr. With no minimums, as I view them as unfair.

So there you have it. My .02 cents. I opened my doors to you the residents of Stewartstown so I could help you with you computer needs. I hope some day you give me the chance.

John Stutzman

I regularly come to this site to read the forums and happened upon Computek through the previous posts. I live right down the street from Messina’s Plaza and had never even known that they are there.  I cannot tell you how happy I am that I gave John a call. Before I talked to John I had purchased a fairly expensive motherboard and memory ( along with the rest of the pieces for a computer ) so that I could put together my own machine. Unfortunately, what should have been a fairly easy process turned into a 6 month nightmare. The board, it turns out, was so “top of the line” that it was practically impossible to get up and running. I was stuck sending piece after piece back to California (where I bought them over the internet) to be tested. Every time they sent something back it still did not work and the wait for mail to and from CA can be almost a week if you don’t want to pay for fast delivery. Anyhow, as I said, I spent 6 months sending stuff back and forth, getting friends to try and help me with it, and dealing with stuff that was damaged in the mail..... then I finally called John. He took the pieces that they said were good and tried to work with them but again they were bad. So he advised I cut my losses and go with a new motherboard that he suggested. In 2 days I had my computer and at a very resonable price.  John even bought my old memory from me because the other place won’t take them back. So my only loss so far was the cost of the motherboard.
Again, I cannot express my gratitude to John and his employees at Computek enough. If anyone in Stewartstown needs assistance with their computer or wants one custom built, Computek is defintely the way to go.
