I noticed there is a big “Coming Soon” sign on the I-83 side of Home Depot.  Does anyone know when they will be opening?

Thanks!

Not sure, but by the looks of it, it should be soon.  I drove past last weekend and they were putting up the cart returns in the parking lot.  I’d imagine that’s not something you do first.

I know the fire dept. is having a “walk through” of the new facility sometime this month to look at features relating to the fire service. I believe they are shooting for December to open.

Got a post card in the mail announcing a Neighborhood Night
wednesday December 21, 6-9 pm

The card makes no mention if you have to have the card to enter the store.

Just an update.

Just got back from the opening.
Lots of people.  No real deals or giveaways.
The Homer Bucket was .99 (Reg 4.95) That was the deal!

The entrance is very small and produced a large traffic jam.
This is poor planning.

The entrances to a lot of the larger chain stores many times tends to be crowded.  Kind of a turn off.  (Have you been to Ruby Tuesday’s?  They don’t even have an entrance - you walk right into the salad bar!) However, I did hear they are selling dog food, among other things not so ‘Home Depot-ish’.  The dog food we buy was cheaper there than other places.  We’ll see if it stays that way, or if it’s just a ‘Grand Opening’ gimmick.  I’ve never been a big Home Depot fan, I’ve always chosen Lowe’s when it came to the conglomerates, but I was also told this one was very well lit, a trait not known to many Home Depots.  I’ll give them a whirl.  All I can do is be disappointed!

I have a friend that is working at the new Home Depot and they don’t expect it to be a large traffic store.  They didn’t even put in a rental store that is in most Home Depot’s. Maybe they wanted True Value to have some customers left.  At least now we have a choice which will make prices competitive around here. grin

How is it that the Home Depot has a NEW FREEDOM address?  It’s on the east side of 83!?  anyone?

Zip code zones are independent of political boundries. For example, the East Hopewell Township building is a Felton address. Some areas of EHT are Airville or New Park with most being Stewartstown. Heck, there are a few addresses in Stewartstown that are in North Hopewell Township and some even have a 235 exchange. Talk about an identity crisis!

In the case of Home Depot, everything on the north side of 851 is Hopewell Township, but a New Freedom zip code. It is the township that matters when it comes to taxes being collected. They go to Hopewell Township. Everything in Stonebridge is in Hopewell. The stuff on the other side like the gas stations and True Value are also New Freedom but they are in Shrewsbury Township.

Hope that answers your question.

I also heard that it has to do with the Shrewsbury post office.  Someone explained to me a while ago that Shrewsbury did not want to take on any parts of the surrounding townships (like the Stewartstown and New Freedom post offices do), and New Freedom’s post office governs that area.

I thought the New Freedom address had something to do with Ruby Tuesday’s being able to sell alcoholic beverages, I can’t remember where I heard that.

In regards to alcohol sales, your address means nothing… it is all about political sub division. Ruby’s is in Hopewell Township. It is ultimately up to Hopewell Township/York County/Pennsylvania to decide. If they were located in the Borough of New Freedom, that would be a different story.

Zip codes are just a postal thing. They don’t carry any weight when it comes to legal or political matters. The state does have laws regarding liquor licenses and how many can be held in a given area. It is based on a per capita formula calculated off the previous census. After the next census, there could be a change in the number of licenses granted. That is why there is only one license in the Borough of Stewartstown (Messinas).
