Can someone recommend someone who would install a new roof? Would like to use someone local. Thanks for the feedback

Good luck.  We were ready to pay cash, and had a hard time getting a roofer to so much as look at our job.

Very disappointing, ‘cause nothing says you care like a fistful of greenbacks.

We ended up using Bros. Roofing (advertised constantly on Ron Smith’s show).  They were aduquate and a hair on the expensive side.  But, since no one was interested in bidding, they got the job pretty much by default.

A truckload of Mexi’s showed up and *worked*.  It made me feel lazy just watching those guys hump 75 lb. bales around like they were nothing.  Cleaned up well, and gone by 2:30.

I’d use them again, but wouldn’t mind a better price.

I needed to have an asbestos shingle roof replaced in a hurry.  The best price I got and the best. fastest service was from J.M. Gangloff Roofing.  I would highly recommend them.  They were excellent to work with.

you should also know that many roofing companies in this area close for the winter - although with the mild temps we’ve been having they may open early - but not usually until March.

I had some repairs done to my roof several years ago by Ream Roofing.  They are located in Dallastown and now have a web site: http://reamroofing.net They are a member of the National Roofing Contractors Assoc. (http://www.nrca.net), so they are not a fly-by-night company.

I was very pleased with the service, the repairs and the cost.  When I need to replace my roof, I will use them again.

By the way, if I don’t know who to call for home repairs, I use Service Magic (http://www.servicemagic.com) to obtain prescreened contractors.  When I needed roof repairs, Service Magic had no one in this area, but recommended Ream Roofing based on feedback from other customers in this area.

There is no fee to use Service Magic and one of the pluses of using them is their service guarantee.  Check out their website for details.

Thanks for the all the info.  I have called several peolpe and have 2 quotes scheduled.  I know that it needs to be warmer but I just want to “get in the schedule”.  It really is amazing at how many people I’ve called with no call backs.  Guess business is really good for some.

To EEL,

You’re quite welcome.  Also, if anyone is not sure who to have clean their chimneys, you can find a certified chimney sweep at The Chimney Safety Institute of America (http://www.csia.org), a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to chimney and venting system safety.

Pama,

You’re welcome.  I’ve found both the Service Magic and the Chimney Institute’s web sites easy to use.
