I sure not many know that Kennard-Dale has an Ice Hockey Team.  But they won the York County Chanpionship beating York Suburban 4-3 in a very exicting game.  This is only the second year that K-D has had a varsity team and finished the regular season 12-4.  They now go on to play in the Viola Cup Championship against teams from Hershey, Harrisburg, and Lancaster areas.

The team plays in the CPIHL, Central Pennsylvania Interschoolastic Hockey League.  It is not supported in any way by the school district.  They don’t even get thier pictures in the yearbook as a club.  You can go to http://www.cpihl.com to find out more about the league and the team.  Also http://www.yavarsity.com and http://www.yorkhockeydigest.com have nice photos and articles on the season.

PS - PM me if you know any boys or girls (K-D varsity had a girl on the team this year) that would like to play, JR.High 6-9th grade, Varsity 9th-12grade.  There is a spring league that is very good for beginners which K-D will be feilding a team in at each age level.

Yes, Tier one is higher level.  Central and Dallastown were moved to the “elite” division two-years ago.  I equate the Tier one with AAAA size schools, some feild as many as four hockey teams Tier 1, Tier 2, JV and JH.  K-D doesn’t play them, normally.  We did have a scrimage against Central in January where we were handed our hat.  I think it was an eye-opener for the team, showing some weaknesses that they needed to work on.

i hope to see a big growth in the sport in the next couple seasons.  i wish the newspapers did a better job covering the games.  i didn’t see the standings all season till playoff time.
