I’m originally from MD, and in MD we had something called the Boys and Girls Club.  Now, a child for a certain area i.e. Beltsville, would go to the Beltsville Boys and Girls club to sign up for all kinds of activiites, sports, cheerleading, etc.  Where does one take their child in this area to see what activities are available?  I’d like to get my 5 year old daughter and 2 year old daughter involved with something.  I was thinking cheerleading, gymnastics, majorettes and even soccer for my older daughter.  Maybe for the 2 year old gymnastics.

I don’t even know where to start.  Help.  Is everything privately run here?  I do know about the MGM dance studio, but was looking for something with more variety.

There’s swimming classes available at the Southern York YMCA in Shrewsbury, reduced rates if you are a member.  For gymnastics, I would recommend Tiny Tumblers at Yorktowne Fitness.  It is a good program, they have classes that fit both of your girls ages.  For Girl Scouts, you have to go through Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council.  For soccer, Barrens Soccer.  Websites are below.

One majorette group in the area is Kims Twirlerttes located in Red Lion - don’t have a website but their phone # is 246-2936.  (This is not a recommendation, since my girls did not participate, just providing the name of the group)

Another option for dance/gymnastics is EMC in New Freedom - phone # is 227-1166 - Experimental Movement Concepts.  They have a summer camp program.

There are also children’s programs at York Little Theater and Dreamwrights, both located in York.  They also both have summer programs for the kids.

New Freedom has a tennis clinic for kids - you could call the borough to find out the age requirements.  The New Freedom Rec Council sponsors a summer camp program also.

for soccer there is the Barrens soccer league or the Mason-Dixon soccer league.  Sorry I don’t have contact info for either group - but you could contact the Rec Council to find out more information about their programs.

Hope this helps.
