Tuesday May 16th ...don’t be too busy. Please get out and VOTE in the state (and federal) primary elections!  Legislative districts in Pennsylvania have become so gerry-mandered over the years, that it’s not easy to remove an incumbent in the general elections in November. If you want to see the back of an incumbent state legislator, the Primaries are the ideal place to do it.

If you dn’t think it matters--- throughout history, one vote has mattered greatly. Please make your vote count.

1649 - One vote literally cost King Charles I of England his head. The vote to behead him was 67 against and 68 for - the ax fell thanks to one vote.
1776 - The new government of the United States chose the English language over the German language by a margin of one vote.
1800 - When the results of the Electoral College votes were opened by both Houses of Congress, there was a tie vote for President between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. That threw the election of President into the House of Representatives where Thomas Jefferson was elected our third president by a one-vote margin.
1824 - The U.S. House of Representatives elected John Quincy Adams president over Andrew Jackson when one representative from New York changed his vote.
1845 - Texas became the 28th state in the Union by one vote.
1850 - California was admitted to the union by a margin of one vote.
1859 - Oregon was admitted to the union by a margin of one vote.
1867 - The Alaska Purchase was ratified by just one vote.
1868 - One vote saved President Andrew Johnson from impeachment.
1912 - Less than one vote per precinct, in one state, elected Woodrow Wilson president.
1960- JFK wins the election because he receives: 1 MORE VOTE per precinct in Illinois (8,858 votes); 3 MORE VOTES per precinct in Missouri (9,880 votes); 3 MORE VOTES per precinct in New Jersey (22,091 votes). Without those 40,829 votes, the election goes to Nixon.
1962 - The governors of Maine, Rhode Island, and North Dakota were all elected by a margin of one vote per precinct.
1993- The largest tax increase in the history of America was passed by one vote in the House of Representatives and one vote in the Senate.
