York County Dairy Princess vies for state title

A cow might seem to be the obvious spokesperson for the dairy industry. Unfortunately, cows can’t talk.  That’s why York County names a Dairy Princess to help promote the industry and its products.

Bigger bins boost recycling rate in New Freedom

Bigger is better.  Preliminary results from a pilot program in New Freedom have found that giving residents larger recycling bins significantly increases the amount of material that is recycled.  Borough residents have increased the amount recycled by 72 percent in the eight months since 22-gallon bins were distributed to replace 14-gallon bins. Residents also received educational materials as a reminder as to what can and cannot be recycled.

Blind teacher an inspiration for religious class

Zach Galante quickly raised his hand and said his name several times.  Though several other students were doing the same, Zach wanted to be the one to give the answer.  His teacher had asked, “What is an epistle?” When the teacher nodded her head in his direction, he blurted out his answer.

“Zach 1—letter.” And Zach 1—there are two Zacharys in the class—was right.

Complicated calculations for voters looking at tax reform proposals

Cyclists welcome: 82-mile round trip to raise funds

Demi Fair has a doctorate in flute and taught music at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pa.  But it’s her role as director of the Southern York County Library she calls her “dream job.” Next weekend, she’ll combine her passion for libraries, a New Year’s resolution to get physically fit in 2006 and a strong community spirit in the first Ride for Reading fund-raiser.

Age not an obstacle for York team in Keystone Games

Al Chesnavage seems to have a thing for the No. 7.  Between coaching and playing soccer, he’s on the field seven days a week. Besides being the head coach of the Kennard-Dale girls’ team (and assisting with the boys’ team), Chesnavage coaches two other club teams and plays on one of his own.
