Stewartstown Lions hear District Governor

Cecil Mundorff, Governor of the 3-county Lion District that includes York, Adams, and Cumberland counties, was the featured speaker at a recent dinner meeting of the Stewartstown Lions Club held at the Stewartstown Presbyterian Church. His topic was “Innovation: Gateway to the Future,” which is also the theme of Dr. Tae–Sup Lee, President of the International Association of Lions Clubs. Whereas Dr. Lee’s writings deal with initiatives that expand international good will and understanding, Governor Mundorff’s talk dealt with more mundane examples of the uses of duct tape and paper clips, but it emphasized that innovation is necessary at the local club level as well.

Governor Mundorff is an excellent example of “local boy makes good.” He is a long-term resident of Felton and has been a member of the Brogue Lions Club for 37 years, during which he has had 37 years of perfect attendance at meetings. Five one-year terms as the Brogue Club President led to 6 years of additional responsibilities as Zone Chairman followed by 2 years as Region Chairman. In July 2002, Cecil accepted the title of Vice District Governor for Lion District 14-C, and one year later he was elected Governor for a one-year term. He is the recipient of various appreciation awards and holds progressive Melvin Jones Fellowships, the international organization’s highest honor.

The District Governor traditionally sponsors a number of community endeavors such as the Lions Beacon Lodge for the Blind, the Leader Dog program, and the Northwest Pennsylvania Eye Bank. To further such works, the Stewartstown Lions presented Governor Mundorff with a check for $560, which represents ten dollars for each of the Club’s 56 members.

During the meeting of the Board of Directors, which followed the dinner meeting, Treasurer Reg Gemmill announced that the Stewartstown Lions Club had been the recipient of a $750 grant from the Wal-Mart Corporation to be used for Community-improvement activities.  The Board expressed its appreciation for the gift and gave assurance that the money would be put to good use for the purpose for which it was given.
