Tips for a crime-free holiday seasonStewartstown Police offer several suggestions to help you have a safe holiday season. If you are traveling, ask a trusted neighbor or your local police department to keep an eye on your home. If you have timers for your lights, use them. Also, stop mail/newspaper delivery or have your neighbor collect it each day. If you are out for the evening, leave an additional light on inside and outside your residence. This will make it appear that you are home and neighbors will have better visibility if something suspicious occurs. Remember, lights and locked doors and windows are the cheapest method of crime prevention. When shopping, be sure to park in an area that will be well lit if you should happen to return to your vehicle after dark. Place all packages in the trunk. This will keep them out of view of prying eyes. If possible, do not carry large amounts of cash. Pay with a check or credit card. Also, try not to overburden yourself with packages. Make several trips to the car, if necessary. Keep purses close to your body and wallets in front pant or inside coat pockets. Lastly, be alert and aware of what is going on around you. Should you be confronted, give up your valuables, then contact security and the police. Remember, having you to spend the holidays with is the best gift you could give your family.
