A Stewartstown woman escaped serious injury after her sport-utility vehicle flipped onto its roof during a car crash in York City.  Lynn Creter, 43, of 23 Ovelton Ave., was taken to York Hospital, where she was treated and released, a nursing supervisor said.

Just before 7:30 a.m. yesterday, Lynn Creter was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer north on South Duke Street when the vehicle was struck at the corner of Duke and Maple streets by a 1995 Toyota Corolla driven by Shane Thomas, 52, of 3017 Ashcomb Court, Red Lion, police said.

Before the crash, Thomas was driving westbound from South Queen Street and onto East Maple Street. He said he stopped at a stop sign at Maple and Duke streets and did not see any oncoming traffic, according to police.

Thomas also said he was “briefly distracted,” looking at vehicles and passengers on nearby East Maple Street when he entered the intersection, police said.

That’s when he struck the rear passenger side of Creter’s SUV, causing it to spin out of control, flip on its roof and slide from in front of 442 to 448 S. Duke St, according to police.

Passers-by helped her crawl out of the overturned vehicle, police said.

The Explorer’s rear windshield and side windows were broken and there was roof damage. Thomas’s Toyota sustained damages across the front bumper and grill area.

He was not hurt, but was cited for duties at a stop sign, police said.
